A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, The Osun West Majiyagbe Ambassadors (TOWMA), has dispelled rumours that the agitation for zoning of the governorship ticket to the West Senatorial District was to impose a candidate.

The group maintained that its agitation was to ensure equity, fairness, and transparency, stating that the imposition allegations are “unsubstantiated and contradict the APC’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and democracy.”

A statement by the group’s Coordinator, Moshood Mujeeb, on Thursday, emphasised the need for transparency, fairness, and the zoning of the APC gubernatorial ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District, warning that the claims by a pseudo Mojiyagbe about imposition were untrue.

The group described the imposition rumours as baseless and divisive, reaffirming the APC’s long-standing commitment to democratic principles.

“False claims circulating about top party officials attempting to impose a candidate not only undermine our democratic ethos but also diminish the voices of our party hierarchies,” Mujeeb stated.

He highlighted the historical marginalisation of the Osun West Senatorial District, which has not produced a gubernatorial candidate in the APC’s 26 years of participation in elections. “Despite this, the district has consistently supported progressive candidates in every election. What else could epitomise the spirit of our people if not this unwavering loyalty?”

The group reiterated its demand for fairness, stressing that the zoning of the gubernatorial ticket to Osun West is not a political manoeuvre but a call to address historical imbalances and ensure inclusivity in leadership.

“The agitation for a candidate from Osun West is borne out of a genuine need for fairness and inclusion. This is not about personal vendettas; it is about empowering every district in Osun State to contribute its best to governance,” he added.

He criticised what he described as blackmail attempts by opposing factions within the APC. According to Mujeeb, these tactics aim to discredit those advocating for zoning and create disunity within the party.

“The opposition’s bitterness is not a reflection of the validity of our cause but of their reluctance to embrace an inclusive future. Blackmail is the weapon of the weak,” he said, urging party members to see through the manipulation.

TOWMA expressed confidence that zoning the gubernatorial ticket to Osun West would position the APC for success in 2026, saying that “The district’s potential candidates are experienced and respected across the state, capable of galvanising widespread support to ensure victory for our party,” Mujeeb noted.
