Governor Umo Eno Rewards Akwa Ibom Councils with ₦155m for Christmas Unplugged Participation

State Government Fulfills Pledge to Boost Local Tourism

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has disbursed ₦155 million to local government areas across the state as a reward for their active participation in the 2024 Christmas Unplugged festival. The presentation ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo over the weekend.

Commitment to Cultural Development

According to an official statement, the ₦5 million award to each of the state’s 31 local government areas fulfills the government’s promise to support councils that effectively showcased their cultural and tourism assets during the festive event.

Represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to cultural development and grassroots engagement initiatives.

“When I was appointed commissioner, one of the first memos I saw proposed this ₦155 million payment to local councils as reward for their Christmas Unplugged participation,” Udofia revealed. “His Excellency promptly approved the funds before our retreat, demonstrating his commitment. Today we witness that promise fulfilled.”

Local Government Appreciation

Speaking on behalf of council chairmen, ALGON Chairman and Uyo Council leader Dr. Uwemedimo Udo praised Governor Eno’s strategic investments in the state’s tourism sector.

“This reward represents just one of many visionary investments by His Excellency in our tourism potential,” Udo stated. “By encouraging local governments to develop their unique attractions, he’s building the foundation for a thriving cultural economy.”

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Grace Akpan, also expressed gratitude for the governor’s consistent support, noting his “deep passion for tourism development across all Akwa Ibom communities.”

Ministry Staff Celebrations

In related developments, Commissioner Udofia has urged ministry staff to actively promote the state’s ARISE Agenda in their daily work. The call came during celebrations for staff birthdays in April – a monthly tradition aimed at boosting morale and productivity.

Represented by Permanent Secretary Akpan, Udofia commended staff dedication to implementing ministry programs that advance the ARISE Agenda, while offering birthday blessings for long life, health and prosperity.
