The recent defection of Alexander Igoji Adanu and several Labour Party members to the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna was self-driven, and not a serious threat, a Labour Party chieftain, Elder Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, told TheSun.ng.

According to him, Adanu’s departure was driven by personal ambitions, specifically his intention to contest in the upcoming Chikun/Kajuru by-election caused by the death of Hon. Ekene Adams.

Despite the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party, Danbaki remains optimistic that the party could overcome its challenges, reconcile, and unite before the 2027 general election, with a focus on unseating the All Progressives Congress (APC) and advocating for good governance.

He told TheSun.ng that, “the recent defection of Alexander Igoji Adanu and a notable number of Labour Party (LP) members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sparked discussion within the political landscape of Kaduna State.

“While the number of defectors is not as high as the 10,000 they claim, it is important to recognise that any member who leaves for a party other than the APC remains part of the broader political family.

“Adanu, seeking to contest in the upcoming Chikun/Kajuru by-election, is pursuing his personal ambitions, and we wish him well.

“Despite the ongoing leadership crisis within the LP, there is optimism that these challenges can be overcome, allowing for reconciliation and unity before the 2027 general election.

“The focus remains on uniting to unseat the APC and advocating for good governance.

“In summary, while individual decisions may lead to temporary departures, the commitment to collaboration and shared goals within the Labour Party remains strong, with hopes for a united front in the future,” he said.
