A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Fouad Oki, has urged impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa to stop contesting his removal.

He said Obasa should return to his basic duties as a lawmaker or resign from the assembly.

Oki stated this as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Monday.

On Monday, January 13, members of the Lagos assembly impeached Obasa and chose Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as his replacement.

However, Obasa faulted his removal, which he said was done with a fake mace.

Obasa, who represents Agege 1 state constituency, maintained that he remained Speaker of the assembly.

Meanwhile, Meranda officially resumed the duties of Speaker on Monday.

Speaking on speakership tussle, Oki said, “Matters of the Lagos Assembly are past events… what has played out in Lagos is very clear: there is party organisation and there’s party with convention. You know conventions are unwritten rules or unwritten laws.”

He urged Obasa to accept his fate.

“Nothing he could do other than go back to the house and continue his job as a legislator. Another side to that is that he should throw in the hat and say ‘I’ve had enough, let someone else take over from me.

“Other than that he should just continue his basic responsibility of continuing to participate in making good laws for the good people of Lagos. He’ll take it like every other human being. It comes and goes. It is gone,” Oki said.
